Joe Biden raises his voice against his Russian counterpart. The US President called Vladimir Putin a “murderous dictator” and of “pure thug” after three weeks of Russian invasion of Ukraine, during the “Lunch of Friends of Ireland” organized by the Democratic Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Thursday, March 17 in Washington.

On Wednesday, the American leader had for the first time called the Russian president a “war criminal”, in response to a reporter’s question. “The president was speaking from his heart and from what you saw on television, which is the barbaric actions of a brutal dictator”, his spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, later said. She clarified that a “legal proceedings (was) still ongoing at the State Department” concerning a legal qualification of “war crimes” committed by Russia in Ukraine.

No American official had until now publicly used the terms “war criminal” or “war crimes”, unlike other States or international organizations. “We consider unacceptable and unforgivable such rhetoric from the head of state, whose bombs have killed hundreds of thousands of people around the world”had reacted the spokesman of the Russian presidency Dmitry Peskov, quoted by the agencies TASS and Ria Novosti.
