Monsieur Jourdain is a bourgeois who dreams of himself as a gentleman. He will do anything to make it happen, and will be ridiculed by society. A classic by Molière, seen today in a ballet comedy version.
“Le Bourgeois gentilhomme” as Molière had imagined!
Jérôme Deschamps’ Note of intent
He is not the one we think, a foolishly ambitious ridiculous, hungry for honors, but a bourgeois who is bored and who wishes to rise up, to leave the routine life which bores him, and to become a “man of quality ”through culture.
He’s dreaming…
Of course, ignorant of these matters, of their simplest content, he only knows the external signs that attract him, and his naivety amuses us.
The others laugh at him, we don’t care, we think he’s crazy. He’s dreaming…
And here I want to share his loneliness in the midst of those who deceive him, his wonder at the paradise he thinks he sees born before his eyes.
And dream …
