It is the end of a reign for one of the greatest presidents of a football club in France. After 36 years at the head of Olympique Lyonnais (OL), Jean-Michel Aulas was sidelined on Monday May 8 by John Textor, the American majority shareholder of OL. The Lyonnais already regret the departure of a president emblematic of an entire city. His club won everything in the 2000s, notably winning seven consecutive titles of champion of France.
The women’s section of OL has multiplied the titles
Legendary players have passed through OL, such as Juninho, Sonny Anderson, Florent Malouda and Grégory Coupet. Jean-Michel Aulas’ Lyon also revealed one of the greatest strikers of his time, Karim Benzema, the last Ballon d’gold. Jean-Michel Aulas, who however has the image of an omnipotent and sometimes interventionist president, was also a precursor of women’s football in France. OL’s women’s section has won 15 championships and eight Champions Leagues.
