“Jean-Luc Mélenchon is doing a form of parallel campaign”, denounces Friday March 29 on France Inter Marie Toussaint, head of the Ecologists list in the European elections. The MEP accuses the former presidential candidate of wanting to nationalize the European vote. She regrets as well as Jean-Luc Mélenchon “talk about presidential elections, as if the European elections did not exist”.

If he is a candidate for an ineligible place on Manon Aubry’s list, the leader of La France insoumise is omnipresent in the campaign. For Marie Toussaint, this leads to a “form of confusion.

“We are not in an election that would be Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s fourth presidential election, we are in a European election.”

The candidate wants to mark her difference with the socialists

Marie Toussaint also wants to show her difference with Raphaël Glucksmann, head of the PS-Place publique list. “European socialists support the budgetary stability pact“, deplores the environmentalist candidate. She maintains that her group refuses it no “not out of principle, but because it will hinder any capacity to invest in the ecological transition”. Marie Toussaint would rather “free up resources to invest” in this transition. She therefore demands “massive investments at European and French levels”.

The MEP calls in particular for the creation of a “sovereign wealth fund” by taking control of the most polluting European oil and gas groups. She justifies this proposal by recalling that certain companies “continue to carry out activities that endanger the security of the planet”. “We must take control of these companies and to do so, invest in capital, as we do in other strategic sectors”, explains Marie Toussaint. This fund will be endowed with an amount of 100 billion euros. And to find this sum, the head of the environmentalist list estimates that it “We must take the money we spend today to support fossil fuels and put it at the service of climate protection.” She thus recalls that in 2022 “330 billion euros in subsidies [ont été accordées] to fossil fuels” in the European Union. “We need to redirect the money”she insists.
