Jean-Jacques Goldman and Michaël Jones, which, at first glance, might never have brought them together!

At 71, Michael Jones has decided to return to the stage. After releasing “The Goldman Legacy Volume 2” in December 2022, the famous Franco-Welsh guitarist, author and composer has indeed decided to go on a concert tour throughout France. A few days before his March 10 concert in Paris, he confided in journalist Élodie Suigo.

Impossible not to approach Jean-Jacques Goldman with whom he collaborated for many years from the group “Taï Phong” at the end of the 1970s to the trio Fredericks-Goldman-Jones which they formed with singer Carole Fredericks, passing by the success of the hit “Je te donne” which they co-wrote…

Michael Jones thus recounted his first meeting with Jean-Jacques Goldman: “You should know that I joined the Taï Phong group to replace Jean-Jacques who did not want to tour. But afterwards, I understood why. The Taï group Phong had huge ideas and they thought they were going to be able to tour like Pink Floyd. So we had enormous machinery to play in front of 300 people. And so I met Jean-Jacques when it was time to choose the songs for the third album, with Jean Maresca who was the producer at the time. And it was love at first sight” he recalled.

The song “Je te donne” having remained number 1 in the Top 50 for eight weeks, it is to this day one of the greatest hits of French song. Michael Jones, who co-wrote this title, confided in his creation: ‘I give you’ is our story with Jean-Jacques Goldman. It’s the story of two guys who come from two backgrounds, two totally different religions, who manage to get along and move forward together.”

To conclude, Michael Jones revealed the name of his favorite Jean-Jacques Goldman song: “It’s Minority because first of all, it allowed me to meet a guitarist that I admire, who is Nono from the group Trust. And I love the text because it fits me, “When I grow up, I know what I want to do, I want to be in the minority“.
