Jacques Doillon counterattacks, and takes legal action

Judith Godrèche, who is giving a second wind to the #MeToo movement in France, filed a complaint at the beginning of February against Jacques Doillon, but also against the director Benoît Jacquot for sexual and physical violence which dates back to his adolescence. This February 22, 2024, the first response.

He “decided to file a complaint for defamation

We learn, via AFP, that the father of Lou Doillon, ex-husband of Jane Birkin “decided to file a complaint for defamation” against the actress Judith Godrèche for comments “despicable” of it. The press release was sent by the filmmaker’s lawyer, Me Marie Dosé.

An announcement that comes at the right time, while this Thursday, in the columns of Parisian, Isild Le Besco explained that she was also considering filing a complaint against Benoît Jacquot and Jacques Doillon. Regarding the first, with whom she was in a relationship, she reports “psychological violence, above all”, and specifies: “Benoît Jacquot thought he knew better than me who I was and what I thought. For example, he was constantly telling me that I was fat. There was also physical violence, sometimes out of anger.”

And to add about the second: “I was 17 and he asked me to prepare for a role. For weeks I worked improvising and co-directing the script and the day I refused his advances he fired me of the film. He literally plundered me, and not just my work.”

Already a first sanction

First sanction fell against Jacques Doillon: he who was to chair, on February 21, 2024, a festival in Tours, Viva Il Cinema, was ejected by the organizers. As France Bleu Touraine announced on Thursday February 8, 2024, he would no longer be welcome in Indre-et-Loire. Indeed, Bruno Lavillatte, the president of the association which manages the festival, explained to our colleagues: “it is a collective and unanimous decision in order to preserve the ethics of the festival”.
