“it’s the start of the seventh wave” says Nice infectious disease specialist Michel Carlès

The Covid epidemic is back in the Alpes-Maritimes. 11 patients are hospitalized in the CHUs of the department. But it is above all the cases that are increasing. Professor Michel Carlès, head of the infectiology department was the guest of France Bleu Azur this Friday morning. And he details this upsurge.

“We went from 200 cases to 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, it’s a real upsurge, it’s the seventh wave”

The peak is expected for September. Until then, Professor Carlès calls for caution “without panicking”. He asks the most fragile to wear the mask well in closed places. And reminds young people that barrier gestures should not be brushed aside.

Vaccination of over 80s in the PACA region lagging behind

Michel Carlès also launches an appeal to those over 80. Only 20% of them received their fourth dose. Worse 25% of them did not have a third dose.

“It is the most fragile population, the most likely to have serious forms”

The professor indicates that after six months without a booster, the immunity weakens. He encourages all audiences to use the fourth dose as soon as possible.
