It is not the church which is in the middle of the village but the inn. In Aiglun, in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Préalpes d’Azur, we have long prayed that the hostel will reopen after 2 years of closure.
This small village of 94 inhabitants has been left without a store for all this time. Thanks to the SOS Villages operation, an innkeeper and his wife left the north of France to settle in the Alpes-Maritimes. The official inauguration took place on Tuesday 23 August.
The goal now is to bring back several services. The post office, or the cafe for example have disappeared”: the mayor of the village
The Calendal Inn is the only business in the village. The mayor, Anthony Salomone, found the new managers thanks to an advertisement placed on SOS Villages. “It’s a relief because an inn is the economic heart of a village. We have lost several services such as the school, a post office or a café. With this inn, we hope that this is only the beginning of the rebirth of the town”.
The new managers: “We fell in love”
Michel and his wife Gwendoline come from Normandy. It is in Aiglun that they now want to put down their suitcases: “It’s beautiful. I wake up at dawn, I see a starry sky. Last week we saw a family of boars. It’s nature, the life we need. We see each other here for several years, and we are even considering opening a bakery.”
The rates are set at 30 euros per night in the dormitories, 65 to 75 euros for the rooms with breakfast included, there are a total of around thirty beds.
