It is done, Benoît Poulain and Nicolas Benezet have replayed with Nîmes in Ligue 2. Benoit Poulain, holder in defense, had not played in an official match at the Costières stadium with Nîmes since 3004 days (i.e. 8 years, 2 months and 21 days). For Nicolas Benezet, who entered the game in the 84th minute, it was 3354 days (i.e. 9 years, 2 months and 6 days). Unfortunately their presence did not prevent the Gardois from losing at the very end of the match. A fairly logical victory for the Caennais given the face of the meeting. Benoît Poulain, who spoke in the mixed zone after the match, was obviously proud to wear the red and white jersey in competition: “I’m very happy to be at Nîmes, it’s my club, there I became a player again so it’s a little different, but when I left to play elsewhere I was a Nîmes supporter. Bringing the shirt back is a pride, I want to take this club as high as possible. I hope I do a good job because that’s when it’s a big challenge for me.”
Second big consecutive Ligue 2 match to come with the trip to Saint-Etienne
Against the teammates of Anthony Briançon and Denis Bouanga who have just moved down to Ligue 2 and who lost their first match in Dijon (2-1 defeat and expulsion of Bouanga), the Crocos are going to have a hell of a challenge to take up on the lawn of Geoffroy-Guichard. A lawn where, in addition, Nîmes has never won in its history in Ligue 2 (3 draws and 2 losses). Hopefully that stat will be cleared next Saturday!
Saint-Etienne-Nîmes, meeting to follow live in full on France Bleu Gard Lozère. Kick off this Saturday August 6 at 3 p.m. The pre-game will start at 2:45 p.m.
