Manuel Bompard, La France insoumise (LFI) deputy for Bouches-du-Rhône and coordinator of the party, was the guest of “4 Vérités” on France 2, Tuesday March 26.

According to figures revealed by INSEE on Tuesday March 26, France’s public deficit reached 5.5% of gross domestic product (GDP) for the year 2023. “It’s a scathing disavowal for the government”launches Manuel Bompard, coordinator of La France insoumise (LFI), in the “4 Truths” on France 2. The LFI deputy for Bouches-du-Rhône recalls that the executive “was based on assumptions of a 4.9% deficit”.

“Increase state revenue”

While the government announced in February a savings plan of 10 billion euros in 2024, Manuel Bompard deplores “an unprecedented drain on public spending”. The LFI coordinator instead calls for “increase state revenue”. “There is a need to concentrate tax increases on the richest”believes the MP for Bouches-du-Rhône. “There are areas for work today. Reestablishing the solidarity tax on wealth means bringing between 5 and 10 billion euros into the state coffers”he says. “For several months now, we have been proposing a tax on superprofits”recalls Manuel Bompard.
