Italy is on fire for Jannik Sinner, its “golden ragazzo”

Italy has found a new hero, its “golden ragazzo”, Jannik Sinner makes the headlines of all the transalpine press on Monday, the day after his first Grand Slam coronation at the Australian Open tennis tournament, a first for an Italian since 1976.

This is not the least of his exploits: Sinner, who at the age of 22 became the fifth representative of Italian tennis to win a major title, captured the front page of the Gazzetta dello Sport in football king.

For the sports daily with its pink pages which devotes its first nineteen pages to him and reduces Inter Milan’s return to the top of Serie A to a simple entry on the front page, he is “the king of tennis, the ragazzo (boy ) Golden “.

“He is the boss of Italian sport because at 22 years old, he has already written history, he exudes freshness, strength, class and charisma […] Alone, he embodies the spirit of an Italian team like Alberto Tomba, Marco Pantani and Valentino Rossi before him,” says the Gazzetta.

The two other sports dailies are not left out: “From another world”, headlines the Corriere dello Sport about a final won in five sets against Daniil Medvedev by “Sinner the phenomenon”, while Tuttosport addresses him with a simple and imposing “Grazie!” » (thank you), in the caption of a photo of the big redhead all smiles with his trophy, taken up by all the press.

“Sinnerlandia”

His Australian odyssey, his journey, from the ski slopes of South Tyrol, this German-speaking province where he was born and where his parents let him live his childhood without wanting at all costs to make him a champion, at the top of world tennis, also fascinate the general press.

“Jannik Sinner has made history,” says La Repubblica. “Sinner is a legend,” adds Il Messaggero.

THE Corriere della Serra for his part discovered “Sinnerlandia”, “the land of all possibilities, the place where you can live your dreams if they are touched by the magic wand of Jannik Sinner”: “The red-haired baron, poetizes the first daily Italian in terms of diffusion, enthusiasm, because it prolongs the dream. Sinnerlandia is destined for expansion.”

He is, finally, “The man of dreams” for La Stampa who sees in his coronation and his dazzling career a lesson for an entire country: Sinner is “the one who had the patience to build great success and the courage to know how to wait […] “.

Sinner’s triumph was even praised by Pope Francis on Monday morning during an audience where he received representatives of a Barcelona tennis club. “From tennis, we can learn lessons for life,” underlined in a philosophical outburst the Argentine pope, who has never hidden his interest in sport, particularly football.
