For 30 years, the wall of the facade of 5 bis, rue de Verneuil, in Paris, has been a place of meditation and expression for fans of Serge Gainsbourg. From Wednesday September 20, this residence will be open to the public, who will be able to discover the artist’s wacky objects.
For Charlotte Gainsbourg, 5 bis, rue de Verneuil has long remained a painful memory, linked to the death of her father Serge. It was in this house in the 7th arrondissement of Paris that she grew up, sometimes under the intrusive eye of the cameras. Fifty years later, she made an old dream come true: opening this house to the public. “It was already a museum. I didn’t touch anything, move anything. It’s a modest place”, assures the actress and singer. She has decided: there will be no cameras. Only visitors will be able to enter the musician’s privacy and this house.
A bar and a museum
In this setting, we find a multitude of objects of all kinds, such as a strange spider. Wednesday September 20, 30 meters from the house, a second place will open its doors: Gainsbar. “We came to look for all these little details to ensure that the experience feels like an extension”, explains Anatole Maggiar, director of content and programming at Maison Gainsbourg. Upstairs will be the museum with 450 objects from the Gainsbourg collection.
