“It makes me happy to see him suffer”, Jacques Dutronc evokes what really pushed him to accept a tour with his son, Thomas!

“Dutronc & Dutronc”, this is the title of the unprecedented tour that the father and son are preparing to face in the four corners of France, between the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023.

For the occasion, the magazine “Seven to eight” offered this Sunday, August 28 to its viewers a very intimate interview, between the journalist Audrey Crespo-Marat and the Dutroncs, Jacques and Thomas. Two men deeply attached to each other and who understand each other half-heartedly. Like father, like son… The journalist tells them about their next tour.

It makes me happy to hear him, to see him sing, to see him suffer at times…

ACM: “What convinced you to do this tour?”

Jacques: It’s the money (laughs) and I haven’t touched anything since the beginning… Nothing! So it’s not the money already, it’s the fact of being with him, that’s it…

Thomas: the Dutronc family is very modest, that’s it… You have to learn to decipher…

Jacques: You have to put subtitles!

Thomas, yes, subtitles outside the words

Jacques: What does he say? (laughs)

ACM: “That is, he didn’t say ‘Yes, I want to spend time with you’

Thomas: No, but you can see it, feel it and understand it.

Jacques: Well yes, no, but… if everything has to be explained, then… It makes me happy to hear him, to see him sing, to see him suffer at times… because he absolutely wanted me to sing “Fais pas this, don’t do that” which is a terrible song! There is no breathing in it… So I said to him: “since you want it, you do it!” And so he sings it. And I saw one evening when you were starting to be purple… I was rubbing my hands!

Thomas, laughing: She’s going a little fast!

We did it for Françoise Hardy this tour!

Jacques: Because all the tempos, Thomas is nice, he says: “they are from the era”, but “the era”, I was doing that in 1966… so I’m sorry we are in 2022…

To close the subject, Audrey Crespo-Marat speaks to Thomas: “When you approach fifty, do you think it’s time to take advantage of your parents?”

But it is Jacques who will finally answer… Because, when his son addresses the health problems of his mother, Françoise Hardy… Jacques is moved. And the latter ends up concluding: We did it for her (this tour), it makes her happy!
