Four Syrian soldiers and three pro-Iran foreign fighters were killed on the night of Monday May 1 to Tuesday May 2 in northern Syria in Israeli strikes. These also damaged the international airport of Aleppo, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. “Around 11:35 p.m. (10:35 p.m. in Paris), (…) the Israeli enemy carried out an air attack with several missiles (…) targeting Aleppo international airport and a number of places near Aleppo “the official Syrian agency Sana had initially reported, citing a military source.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH) later reported several “explosions in the area of the airport (…) and the Nayrab military airfield (nearby) in the province of Aleppo (…) which led to a fire in an ammunition depot” from the airfield. The strikes have “completely destroyed” this depot, killing four Syrian army officers and “three pro-Iran foreign fighters”said the UK-based NGO, which relies on an extensive network of sources on the ground.

Defense equipment affected, according to the OSDH

A previous report from the Sana agency reported one soldier killed and seven people injured, including two civilians. “Aleppo airport is out of service”, said Sana, information confirmed by the OSDH and other local media. Authorities did not provide additional information about the reopening of the airport or the nature of the damage. “Israeli missiles fell on defense (material) factories in the Safireh area” in the province of Aleppo, which led “property damage”also added the OSDH, saying that these sites were used by pro-Iranian fighters.

Since the beginning of the war in Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes against regime positions as well as Iranian and Lebanese Hezbollah forces, allies of Damascus and sworn enemies of Israel.
