A new Israeli strike has been claimed in the southern suburbs of Beirut. It left 12 dead and 59 wounded. Among the dead was the head of Hezbollah’s elite unit. He had been wanted for years by the United States in particular.
The powerful explosion that rocked the southern suburbs of Beirut released a large amount of smoke on Friday, September 20. In this neighborhood known as a Hezbollah stronghold, the blast caused panic. This is the third time that the neighborhood has been hit by strikes since the start of hostilities between Israel and the Shiite movement supported by Iran.
Among the dead was a senior member of the Shiite movement, Ibrahim Aqil. He had been wanted for many years by the United States, particularly for his involvement in the anti-American attacks in Beirut in 1983, which left 63 dead.
In recent hours, on the front line along the Lebanese border, the exchange of fire between the two sides has intensified. For its part, the United States is still seeking an agreement for a ceasefire.
