Israeli government orders evacuation of 1.1 million Palestinians from northern to southern Gaza, against UN advice

On Friday October 13, the Israeli army ordered the evacuation of “all civilians in Gaza” towards the south of the Palestinian enclave, on the seventh day of its war against Hamas. The Jewish state invites Palestinians to move “towards the area south of Wadi Gaza”a stream located south of the city. “You will only be allowed to return to Gaza City when another announcement allowing this is made”, added the army. The UN, informed Thursday of this evacuation order which concerns some 1.1 million inhabitants, calls for this order to be rescinded. “The United Nations considers it impossible for such a population displacement to take place without causing devastating humanitarian consequences”, alerts the spokesperson.
