Israeli army says it has recovered bodies of five hostages

The remains of the hostages were recovered during “an operation led by the Internal Security Agency (…) in the Khan Younis region,” the IDF said.

The Israeli army confirmed on Thursday, July 25, the repatriation of five bodies found in the Palestinian enclave. The hostages’ remains were recovered during “an operation led by the Internal Security Agency (…) in the Khan Younis region”the IDF said in a message published on the social network X.

The bodies of Maya Goren, Ravid Katz and Oren Goldin, residents of kibbutzim near the Gaza Strip, as well as the bodies of two soldiers, Tomer Ahimas and Kiril Brodski, have been returned to Israel. On Wednesday evening, two kibbutzim where Oren Goldin and Maya Goren came from announced the return of their remains.

The five people whose deaths had been announced were killed on October 7 during the bloody Hamas attack on Israeli territory, which resulted in the death of 1,197 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli data. Of the 251 people kidnapped at the time, 111 are still being held captive in Gaza, including 39 who have died, according to the army.
