Four people were involved Sunday in a collision between a sailboat and the ferry NM Svanoy, making the link between L’Isle-aux-Coudres and Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive. An elderly woman in her fifties was seriously injured, but there is no fear for her life.
The event occurred around 10:30 a.m., according to reports from the Sûreté du Québec, which was called to intervene at the start of the day.
It was the Coast Guard and the crew of the MV Svanoy who first rescued the four people involved, who had fallen into the waters of the St. Lawrence River on impact. Note: the collision occurred when fog greatly reduced visibility on the river.
Among the victims, a woman in her fifties had been seriously injured. She was transported to a hospital center. His condition was initially considered critical, but by early afternoon authorities no longer feared for his life.
Another man, also in his 50s, suffered minor injuries. The other two people involved are out of danger.
“My thoughts are with those who were on board the boat that collided with the ferry NM Svanoy at L’Isle-aux-Coudres. I am following the situation closely, ”tweeted the minister responsible for the Capitale-Nationale region, Jonatan Julien, at the start of the afternoon.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada will conduct an investigation to understand the exact circumstances that led to this event.
All routes between L’Isle-aux-Coudres and Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive were temporarily interrupted on Sunday. The NM Félix-Antoine-Savard will link the two shores in the meantime.
