The left criticizes the government by explaining that France is one of the only European countries not to tax the superprofits of large companies. Is it true ?

Mathilde Panot, deputy of France insubordinate, affirms that France “is the only country in Europe, or almost the only one” not to tax the superprofits. “It is factually false, we are talking about three European countries out of 27”, replied Renaissance MP Jean-René Cazeneuve. Who is telling the truth? The UK has introduced a 25% tax on the profits of oil and gas companies. Italy, Spain, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria have also taken exceptional measures.

The UN and the European Commission have encouraged the countries of the Old Continent to introduce this kind of tax. France is not one of the only countries in Europe not to tax superprofits, as Mathilde Panot says. But many more than three European countries have done it or are considering it, contrary to what Jean-René Cazeneuve asserts.
