Two incidents involving gunshots occurred Thursday morning in Montreal, during which a man was injured. Montreal police investigators are still trying to determine whether these events, which took place in two different neighborhoods, are linked.
The first shooting took place on Pie-IX Boulevard, in the Rosemont district, when a person in a moving vehicle opened fire in the direction of another vehicle which was also traveling on Pie-IX.
The driver of the second vehicle was hit “in the upper body” and had to be hospitalized. According to information from the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM), however, his life would not be threatened. Other bullet holes were spotted on his vehicle.
A large security perimeter has been set up by the police, so that Boulevard Pie-IX is closed between Rue Beaubien and Boulevard Rosemont.
Moments later, more shots were fired from a vehicle, this time in Le Plateau-Mont-Royal.
On Saint-Joseph Boulevard, at the corner of Henri-Julien Street, the driver of a vehicle contacted emergency services to report that the rear window of his vehicle had been shattered by gunfire. The man was not injured.
“The suspect vehicle subsequently fled, so it remains to be determined whether it is the same vehicle that was involved in the event in Rosemont,” indicated agent Raphaël Bergeron, spokesperson for the SPVM. .
The police are also trying to understand the motives behind these two shootings, which remain unknown.
