It was one of the most talked-about performances of the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games on Friday, July 26. Aya Nakamura, the most internationally listened-to French star, performed on the Pont des Arts, which connects the Louvre to the Académie française. She performed two of her own songs, Djadja And Pookiebefore resuming twox classics of French song, For me formidable And Bohemian by Charles Aznavour. All accompanied by 60 musicians from the French Republican Guard. The sequence quickly went viral on social media. Internet users are having fun reproducing the choreography on video, on the Pont des Arts. No more padlocks, hello TikTok.
“The Pont des Arts is over, it has become the Pont d’Aya”writes an Internet user on TikTok, under a video where she dances and films herself between the Louvre and the Institut de France. It has almost a million views. Dozens of videos reproduce Aya Nakamura’s painting, using the sound of the opening ceremony.
“Aya my queen”writes another Internet user who reproduces the singer’s choreography, in a video that is close to 900 000 views on the social network TikTok in two days. The interministerial delegate for youth of the resigning government, Mathieu Maucourt, lent himself to the trend game: his video achieves the best score for the moment and is close to two million views in 15 hours.
The Pont des Arts has been a little more lively since the opening ceremony. Some Internet users have made the trip especially to be able to record their video, and to put themselves in Aya Nakamura’s shoes for a few minutes.
Listening to Aya Nakamura’s tracks was also boosted by the success of her performance: +36 % of listening in France and +40 % abroad according to figures released by Spotify. She remains one of the most listened to French singers and has nearly 10 million listeners on the streaming platform each month.
