Canadian forward Natalie Spooner has been named the International Ice Hockey Federation (FIHG) Player of the Year for 2024.
With Toronto, Spooner finished first in goals (20) and points (27) in the inaugural season of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (LPHF).
Her performances earned her the title of most valuable player for her team and best attacker in the LPHF.
A 33-year-old Toronto native, Spooner also had a goal and four points to help Canada win the gold medal at the Women’s Ice Hockey World Championship last April in Utica, Wash. from New York.
Spooner garnered 33.6% of the vote in a poll of media representatives from the top 16 countries on the FIHG Women’s Hockey World Championship schedule.
Spooner finished far ahead of American Alex Carpenter (14.6%) and Quebecer Marie-Philip Poulin (11.5%).
Roman Cervenka, captain of the Czech team, earned the same honor on the men’s side after he helped his country win the gold medal at the World Championship.
