“After” Olympic Games, “a cycle at the Ministry of the Interior will be reached”, declares Gérald Darmanin in an interview published Sunday January 14 by Le Figaro. This declaration paves the way for his departure and suggests that the current government was not intended to last beyond the European elections. “[Ma] mission is to succeed in the Olympic Games”, said the minister, who is one of the interior ministers having spent the longest time in these functions. The tenant of Place Beauvau adds that the government of Gabriel Attal, just appointed this week, is a government “electroshock made to win the European elections” of June, suggesting that it was not destined to last beyond that.

While the new government team is right-wing, this former LR says he expects the executive to rely on the “two legs that speak to the popular electorate, authority in all areas of society and social listening”. Gérald Darmanin, who says he was “very seduced by Emmanuel Macron when he raised the question of house arrest”calls in this interview to Figaro has “find this goal again”. “It doesn’t cost a lot of money, it doesn’t require the vote of a major law in the Assembly”he defends.
