Pierre Despars, who had been acting as head of Hydro-Québec since the departure of Sophie Brochu, did not wait for the arrival of Michael Sabia on 1er August and left the company.
“Interim President and CEO Pierre Despars recently informed Board Chair Manon Brouillette of his decision to leave Hydro-Québec,” the corporation said in a statement.
Until 1er August, there will therefore be an interim interim, and it is Jean-Hugues Lafleur, executive vice-president and chief financial officer, who will be interim president and chief executive officer pending the arrival of Mr. Sabia.
Pierre Despars was one of the directors of Énergir who followed Sophie Brochu to Hydro-Québec, where he became number two. As Executive Vice-President, Corporate Strategies and Business Development, he signed the largest export contract in Hydro-Québec’s history with New York City.
Pierre Despars was also behind the acquisition by Hydro-Québec of the Great River Hydro power stations in New England for the sum of 2 billion US.
According to the information that has circulated, Pierre Despars wanted to succeed Sophie Brochu at the head of Hydro-Québec.
