Norway has decided to tackle highly polluting cruise ships for good. These sea monsters represent 3% of total global greenhouse gas emissions. There, they will be banned from 2026 in the most protected sites.
At first glance, no human trace. A unique natural setting in the world, the Nærøyfjord in the west of Norway. However, this valley invaded by marine waters is a favored destination for cruise ships. 150 floating buildings dock there each year. But these highly polluting sea monsters are being replaced by these machines, this is what we call electric cruising.
Decision by the Norwegian authorities
With 400 passengers, this 100% electric boat runs along the banks of the Fjord for 29 kilometers. No exhaust gases, tourists appreciate an atmosphere in perfect harmony with the place. Average speed, 25 km/h, range 50 km with a recharge time of 20 minutes. This revolution in electric cruising can be explained by a decision by the Norwegian authorities. By 2026, polluting liners will be banned from the most touristy Fjords.
