The dissolution cost the National Assembly 28,540,900 euros out of a total budget of 662 million euros in 2024, franceinfo learned on Tuesday, September 17, from parliamentary sources. Following the dissolution of the National Assembly caused by Emmanuel Macron and the early legislative elections at the beginning of the summer, 133 deputies were not re-elected. Their parliamentary collaborators were therefore all dismissed in the process. The costs related to these forced departures climbed to 23.5 million euros. This is what cost the Assembly the most.
The National Assembly had to spend €1.9 million to finance the return-to-work allowance for MPs who were not re-elected. The logistics of changing MPs and staff also generated additional costs: €2.3 million for the purchase of equipment for the new MPs, including IT equipment, but also €60,000 for stationery and €32,000 for office supplies. Nearly €20,000 was allocated to communication costs, such as photo shoots for the newly elected members.
