Housing is one of the main social inequalities, according to a report by the NGO Oxfam, which fears a financialization of the sector.

Rayan Si Ahmed pays 245 euros per month for his 9 m² accommodation. Its scholarships barely cover half of it. This Staps student must work alongside his studies to be able to find accommodation. “I ask myself a lot of questions. Shouldn’t I go to work, stop my studies when I always wanted to study in this direction?”he asks himself.

According to an Oxfam report, students spend between 44 and 60% of their budget on accommodation. This is two to three times more than the French average. The association notes that tax loopholes benefiting buyers have cost nearly 11 billion euros in twelve years. This could have enabled the construction of more than 70,000 social housing units.
