Like dense economic activity, the training center dedicated to industrial professions, the Fab’académy, will expand in Saint-Nazaire. The job market is in full swing, the bosses are looking for arms and the UIMM (union of metallurgy industries and trades) will therefore move to accommodate more apprentices.
A modern building of 8700 m2 in the Heinlex district
Based in Océanis today, the center will be set up in a huge brand new building of 8,700 m2 in the Heinlex district near the hospital. “For the record, it is the same architect who designed the Place du Commando” slips Mayor David Samzun. The building permit is filed on Friday. Amount of work : €25.7 million partly financed by the Region.
These young people, whether they have a CAP or a BTS, all come out with a permanent contract” – Alain Allaire president UIMM 44
This is for the UIMM to meet a need: aeronautics and shipbuilding are almost full employment sectors where the hands are lacking, it is therefore necessary to train more apprentices and attract young people to these sectors. To accommodate 226 apprentices, i.e. twice as many as today, the center is pushing the walls with about fifteen training courses in thea boilermaking, welding, piping or maintenance. “These young people, whether they have the CAP or the BTS, all come out of the Fab’academy with a permanent contract” assures the boss of the UIMM in Loire Atlantique, Alain Allaire. A larger campus to also cater to manufacturers such as Airbus or the Shipyards who are always looking for places for the continuing training of their employees.
Opening scheduled for 2024
The new campus in Saint-Nazaire should see the light of day in 2024. It is the same approach in La Roche-sur-Yon where the training center is expanding and should come out of the ground next year.
