Two men have been charged as part of the investigation into the death of a 13-year-old girl in a fire in February in Garges-lès-Gonesse in Val-d’Oise. It’s about the owner and the manager of the accommodation announced the parquet floor of Pontoise.
The owner of the unsanitary apartment was put under review for “aggravated manslaughter” and “deliberate endangerment of the lives of others”. He was placed in pre-trial detention. The second man was in charge of collecting the rents. He is suspected of “subjecting several vulnerable people to accommodation conditions unworthy”.
An unworthy habitat
As a reminder, last February, a fire broke out on the third floor of a building in Garges-lès-Gonesse in the north of Paris. The fire spread to neighboring apartments and the lifeless body of a young girl was found. She lived on the eighth floor.
The preliminary investigation made it possible to locate the origin of the fire. an apartment where about twenty occupants liveds from Bangladesh, since at least 2019. They slept in rooms of around 10 m2 and had to pay monthly rent ranging from 60 to 80 euros.
Many electrical appliances were plugged into a single wall outlet. “These accommodation conditions characterized overcrowding conditions and in doing so,unfit housing“, explained the parquet floor of Pontoise. These conditions are cause of fatal fire.
