Monday, July 8, after the victory of the New Popular Front, which came out on top in the legislative elections on Sunday evening, voters are wondering. In a Gironde factory, most employees are in favor of the measures proposed by the left, but wonder if they can be implemented.
In the wake of the legislative elections, several measures must be arbitrated in the coming weeks. And the one that is the most debated in a swimming pool manufacturing plant in Gironde is the proposal of the New Popular Front to increase the minimum wage to 1,600 euros net per month. “It could be good, if basic necessities do not increase in line with inflation,” estimates an employee.
The director is also not against the proposal to increase low salaries, but according to her it would cost the company too much. “Currently, we are thinking more about stabilising staff than hiring, so if we have to increase them at that time perhaps we will talk about technical unemployment or layoffs,” confides Véronique Gasciolli, president of Aboral Piscines. If the next Prime Minister were left-wing, the New Popular Front intends to proceed urgently by decree. The repeal of the pension reform, supported by the unions, including the CGT, is also a matter of debate.
