In video: The Lucid Air featured on the Car Guide show

The issue of Car guide is back in force for a second season on TVA with a new formula that will allow you to analyze the vehicles tested from top to bottom. Separated into three segments, the show deals with test drives, tech analysis and finances related to the car in question.

For this first episode, our hosts Antoine Joubert and Gabriel Gélinas test the Lucid Air 2023 on the Mécaglisse track in Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci.

Who is Lucid?

Lucid is a California company that is beginning to market electric vehicles, starting with the Air sedan and soon the Gravity SUV. But Lucid also produces the batteries that power Formula E single-seaters.

“I think Lucid takes us to the next level in transportation electrification with better battery performance and lighter, more compact motors. This is what makes this car stand out from the crowd,” says Antoine.

Very aerodynamic

The Lucid Air is the most aerodynamic production car on the market with a drag coefficient of 0.21. “What I notice when looking at the car is that there are very few openings in the front, but they are finely cut and all functional,” points out Gabriel.

Dynamically, the sedan is very heavy with its mass of more than 2,300 kg – and Gabriel feels this when cornering. On the other hand, the Air is very pleasant to drive.

“This car is a catapult! It’s amazing the force of acceleration, ”rejoices the columnist. Both engines deliver 819 horsepower and 885 lb-ft of torque. This translates to a 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds.

Impressive autonomy

Equipped with its largest battery of 112 kWh, the Lucid can travel 830 kilometers. In addition, Antoine noted during his test an impressive consumption of 19 kWh/100 km.

“The Lucid Air is a technological showcase, you can see it when you take your seat on board – with a driving position that is unconventional and to which you have to get used to”, underlines Antoine.

Our journalists appreciate the spacious interior and the refined cabin. On the other hand, the A pillar located in front of the driver is massive, which affects visibility.
