In the Vaucluse, the Lacoste festival highlights young directors of musical films

For its third edition, thehe Lacoste musical cinema festival in the Vaucluse brings together the performing arts and the 7th art in a magical place until July 30, 2022. On the program, masterpieces of musical cinema but also short films chosen by the selection committee.

By creating, during the summer of 2020, the first festival of musicals, Pierre Cardin wished to honor this facet of the 7th art with which he has flirted all his life. The heirs of the couturier, who died in December of the same year, wished to prolong this passion for cinema. They immediately create the musical short film award. “The important thing is to continue the brilliant idea of ​​Pierre Cardin”, says Rodrigo Basilicati-Cardin, director of the Lacoste festival.

This year, programmer Marie-Hélène Mille has concocted an international selection. “Musical comedy shorts don’t do a lot in France, maybe that will come with this festival in Lacoste, it’s easier to find productions abroad and very often in Asia and the United States”, she observes.

The films screened are: mom life Australian Ruby Challenger, tank ferry by Tawinn-American Erich RettstadtFood Teps on the wind directed by Maya Sanbar, Gustavo Leal and Faga Melo, Spin by Luke CresswellThe Headhunter’s daughter by Don Josephus Raphael EblahanGirl with a thermal gun, by Rongfei Guo and Moving Barcelona by Jevan Chowdhury.

This competition aims to promote the creators of musicals around the world. Seven short films made by promising young talents feature in the selection. All media are authorized, even shooting with a smartphone. These seven short films will be presented each evening before the screening of major musicals such as Footlose, flash dance, The Phantom of the Opera Where Aladdin.

This year, the jury for the musical short film prize is chaired by director and screenwriter Thomas Gilou surrounded by journalist Claire Chazal, actors Bruno Slagmulder, Victor Meutelet and actress Stéphanie C.rayencour. Two prizes will be awarded at the end of the week: the public prize and the jury prize.
