His name is Meïssa, he is 29 years old, and he is in charge of collections. This candidate Koh Lanta“The Immunity Hunters“, is the childhood friend of Benoît Assadi, winner of “Koh-Lanta: Treasure Island”. In 2016, while his friend won the show, Meïssa was going through hell.
“I wanted to cook fries with olive oil“
Victim of a serious domestic accident, he confided to our colleagues at Ciné Télé Revue how his misfortune had befallen him. “At home, I wanted to cook fries with olive oil in a pan but it caught fire. The flames rose quite quickly and, to put them out, I placed my pan under water from the sink. Which you absolutely must not do!” he said first.
And added: “On contact with water, burning oil creates an explosion. To put out the fire, I should have closed the pan with its lid or placed a wet towel on the pan.” Result : “I received burning oil on me and it cooked my skin. I was hit in the skull, in the eye, in the ear, in the left part of the face, in the forearms, on my left foot. At that very moment, I fell to the ground, knocked out. Then, I had the strength to drag myself outside. Passing in front of a mirror, I saw that I had a veiled eye, completely white because the cornea was burned.”
“12% of my body had third degree burns”
An absolute tragedy which led him directly to the hospital, where he stayed for 5 days. He remembers “12% of my body had third degree burns. The doctor preferred that care be given to me at home because there were too many bacteria in the hospital. I had a net and bandages on the burned body parts.”.
A very long convalescence, since it “lasted two years” he said. And no longer, since, he also specifies: “I was supposed to have a skin graft but, on the day of the operation, the surgeon noticed that the skin had regenerated. I thank fate.”
Today that he has arrived in the Philippines to shoot “Koh-Lanta”, the young man can finally “filling in on his lack of travel”. He who has not been able to sunbathe for two years is on the other hand categorical with his comrades in the adventure “don’t ask me to cook anything with oil myself again!” he assures with humor.
