“We are going to start discussing the budget for 2023 in the fall, so if again there is a risk on the price of fuel, a risk that it will increase, we will put the subject back on the table, count on us”, assured Olivier Marleix, Monday, July 25 on France Inter, about the discount on the liter of fuel. If nothing is planned, at this stage, beyond the month of December, it is because“we are on an amending finance law for the end of 2022, so the measures are part of this 2022 budget”recalled the president of the group Les Républicains (LR) to the Assembly.

On Saturday, the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, said he was in favor of increasing the discount on the liter of fuel from 18 to 30 cents, in a compromise with the LR deputies who called for going “further away”. “The discount could increase from 18 to 30 euro cents in September and October, then increase to 10 in November and 10 in December”he detailed.
For Olivier Marleix, the State can absolutely make the discount on the liter of fuel last. According to him, “he only returns part of the revenue he receives”. “Right now, Mr. Le Maire is talking about ‘inflation profiteers'”but, according to him, “the first of the profiteers of inflation in our country is the State, because VAT receipts which are calculated on the price, they increase everywhere”.

To finance this rebate, LR also “indicated a number of measures” to the government, “for example, the biometric Vitale card, we know that it would save a few billion euros for Social Security”. “We have reports from the Court of Auditors, rather serious people, not really Republican activists, who explain that on social fraud, there are tens of billions of euros in fraud to be collected”he pointed out.
