In the Eure, they sponsor Éric Zemmour, out of conviction or for democracy

Éric Zemmmour has, to date, collected twenty-two sponsorships in Nomrandie, including six sponsorships in Eure, all from mayors of municipalities with less than 700 inhabitants. This is the case of Michel Dulondel, mayor of Mesnil-Fuguet since 2014 for whom the absence of certain candidates in the first round would be _“a denial of democracy”_. “I would not like a candidate not to be present when he is representative of a segment of the population” advances the mayor, not inserted in a political party which admits to having hesitated: “Zemmour or Jadot? Jadot or Zammour? I left Zemmour and I think it’s not a bad choice”.

All candidates must be represented – Michel Dulondel, Mayor of Mensil-Fuguet

For the mayor of Mesnil-Fuguet, Éric Zemmour is the candidate of social anger and economic anger. An anger that the mayor hears little in his village: “We are still a fairly privileged municipality, a rurban municipality seven kilometers from Évreux. The inhabitants, white collar workers, are 95% owners there”. Michel Dulondel sees in the rise of extremes in France the expression “problems of insecurity, economic problems, policies that are dragging pans and an image of elected officials that is not beautiful“.

Jean-Claude Surmulet took into account the voting intentions: “More than 10% from the start, it deserved that he could bring his ideas to the debate” indicates the mayor of Lesme, elected for the first time in 1989 who considers “having wanted to put his stone to democracy”.

Why him and not the others? The others don’t need me. The Macrons, the Pécresses, the socialists have enough mayors without knowing any difficulties to present themselves – Jean-Claude Surmulet, mayor of Lesme

A convincing candidate

“He doesn’t necessarily have bad ideas because a good part of his ideas have been taken up by the other candidates” considers Jean-Claude Surmulet for whom Éric Zemmour is “a useful journalist in the debate because he doesn’t have the language of wood, he doesn’t change his mind so much, he argues and he makes you want to love France”. A perception shared by Dominique Desjardins-Brosseau, mayor of Rouvray, who initially followed not the candidate Éric Zemmour but also the television journalist: “He is a gentleman with whom I have always agreed and I think that with him there can be changes, especially for rural France” explains the one who elected mayor of the town of 259 inhabitants in June 2020.

He has a respect for France, for its values. In our village, I see people who don’t respect anything and I don’t want to be nice to them – Dominique Desjardins-Brosseau, Mayor of Rouvray

Daughter of a soldier, the 68-year-old elected explains that she traveled a lot as a child with her parents: “We went to a country, we lived as in the country where we were going. We had respect for things. At the time, we wore a scarf when we entered a church in Spain” and denounce the “laxity, especially of young people”. Seduced by the candidate of “France before”in his words, Dominique Desjardins-Brosseau wants to believe in the sincerity of Éric Zemmour: “As much as the others, it rings false, it’s flat” she explains, while recognizing some qualities in Emmanuel Macron, but “He is very high, it looks like he is no longer at our level” she says.

In the 1970s, France was still great. Today, we want to go too fast, we forget France from below – Dominique Desjardins-Brosseau, mayor of Rouvray

I sponsor Zemmour, so what!

“A strong choice” for Michel Dulondel who “think you’re right to do so” and who cares little about the possible criticism that his sponsorship could generate:

I would have done it also for a candidate like Marine Le Pen, Jean-Luc Mélenchon or Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, all these extremes which represent almost 50% of the population -Michel Dulondel, mayor of Mesnil-Fuguet

Jean-Claude Surmulet has already had to explain himself several times on the reasons for his sponsorship. Will he vote for Éric Zemmour on April 10? “I may not go that far, although today I’m not sure yet” explains the mayor of Lesme, because “from the start I did not think at all that Zemmour was a credible person to be President of the Republic” corn

He progresses quickly and finally he is not so much worse than the others in the presentation of his ideas – Jean-Claude Surmulet, mayor of Lesme

For the mayor of Lesme, Éric Zemmour is “a character who is ostracized by the entire political and journalistic class of France, he does not deserve all that”and defend the candidate because “I hear systematically das the press that he advocates hatred. Until now, me the hatred that I found in the press, it is towards Mr. Zemmour_”.

One candidate appreciated for his outspokenness also by Dominique Desjardins-Brosseau: “I’m like Mr. Zemmour, when I have something to say, I say it” says the mayor of Rouvray, whose sponsorship has already provoked a reaction: “I was supposed to have lunch with a senator on Monday and she canceled Sunday afternoon. I understand why now” explains the mayor who did not think that his sponsorship would be found so quickly on the site of the Constitutional Council.

According to an aide to Nicole Duranton, the lunch was canceled because the mayor told the senator she was not sponsoring anyone, and Duranton felt she had been duped. Yes “for the moment, it would be for Éric Zemmour that I will vote”Dominique Desjardins-Brosseau has not yet made her final choice for April 10 and before deciding, she would like “Hear Mr. Macron well, we haven’t heard him yet”.
