In Turkey, in a camp for earthquake survivors, families are numerous, Saturday February 11. The children are still traumatized by the drama, and have to face precarious material conditions.

In a camp for earthquake survivors in Turkey, many families are now living in makeshift tents made of plastic sheeting. Two young girls playing together try as best they can to keep smiling. My school was destroyed, it won’t reopen for two years. I no longer have my mistress. My mistress, she is dead”, says one of them. “I feel very bad. Psychologically, it’s not okay”she says.

Freezing temperature at night

In some tents, there are up to fifteen people, on the floor, on thin mattresses. “We have a wood heater, a gas heater, and we heat ourselves with that. On tries to get out of it, but it’s cold, it’s too cold”, says a man. The temperature drops to -3°C at night in this camp. To keep children warm, families try to collect warm coats during clothing distributions.
