IN PICTURES – the first race for girls and waiters in Orléans

Some trays ended up on the ground. For this race of girls and waiters, a first in Orleansthe rules were simple: do not run and hold your tray with one hand.

What was less so was not dropping anything. Avelino, 74, the dean of the race paid the price: “everything fell! “he shouts smiling”well at least i participated“. Penalties were applied for spilled glasses or other falls, two minutes maximum.

Three categories were contested : professionals, learners and general public. On the thirty participants, they were mostly professional, with a few tricks up their sleeves. Cyril manages Studio 16 on Place du Martroi in Orléans: ” we try to center the elements on the board and close to the body, and not to put them in the front so that there is no rocking“. Others explain that you have to have your hand well in the center of the board to keep your balance.

The stairs to climb to the kilometer run from Place de la République have been trying for the “General public“. For the regulars, it’s a different story “we have stairs in the restaurant, so it even made me scrounge some timeexplains Walid.It’s still very different from what we are used to doing” he admits “there is the racing aspect. Even if at work it’s also the race all the time!

If the primary objective was to promote the hotel and catering sector, who lacks arms, the ordeal was qualifier for the French championships which take place in Limoges in September. In the end, it was Hassen, waiter from Tourangeau and vice-champion of France, and Divine, waitress at Paul & Juliette in Orléans, who won the race among the professionals.
