Since July 12, firefighters have been fighting impressive forest fires in Gironde. Reinforcements from all over France have arrived on site and Creuse is not left out. Forty firefighters went to fight these fires alongside their colleagues. The first intervention group left on 13 July.
Three to four sleep a night
The Limousin reinforcements are now all grouped together on the Landiras fire in the south of the Gironde. On site, there is Not a minute to lose. Jean-Luc Fournet, the captain of the Bourganeuf barracks arrived on the scene Wednesday July 13, at 3:30 a.m. A half later he was facing the flames for “4 p.m. fire“. The firefighters are fighting step by step. The heat is intense, the spread of the fire fast. The days are trying.
Readings every 48 hours
Each team that leaves the Creuse in the direction of the Gironde is made up ofa dozen firefighters and four vehicles : a rural tank truck, two forest fire-fighting machines and a light all-terrain vehicle for the head of the system. So as not to exhaust the men, the teams are changed every 48 hours.
It gives chills
More than 20,000 hectares of forests have already gone up in smoke in Gironde. Luckily, the Creuse firefighters did not deal with such a fire. “Here a big fire, it’s three or four hectares explains one of them on his return then it gives chills“. He hopes with his colleagues that soon the firefighters will put out the fire so that the evacuees can finally return home.
