IN PICTURES – In Villers-sur-Mer, a sand castle competition delights young and old

A little more water to moisten the sand, so the tower will hold well!” On the beach of Villers-sur-Mer (Calvados), the thirty participants give their all, at the sandcastle contest this Saturday, July 30organized by the SPACE (Sports, Beach, Entertainment, Culture and Facilities) of the town.

The rules are simple: each group has a field of 2 square meters of sand and has, on the counter, an hour and a half to make the most beautiful castle on the beach. A construction that is then rated by a jury. “A score out of 10 is assignedexplains Chloé Ango, one of the organizers, according to several criteria: the artistry, the ingenuity of the constructions and finally we note the respect of the rules and the team spirit, because it is also important!

A winning castle inspired by Mont-Saint-Michel

A bucket in hand, Gauvain is very focused : “Here, I am putting sand in the walls of the castle and then I will continue to decorate it with pebbles and shells, it will be very pretty!“His dad supervises the work and helps Gawain and his brother.”It’s real teamwork and coordination, it’s much faster to build a castle with three than alone!

A moment certainly angled on the competition, but which also and above all allows you to have fun with the family. “We came for the holidays, explains Mélanie, who watches her two sons build a medieval fortress, and we really didn’t want to miss it, the children have been thinking about the plans for the castle since yesterday and it’s a great time that we’re all spending together, it’s nice!
