The troupe of Tréteaux Lyriques competes once again in professionalism with its new show. It is on view at the Gymnase Marie Bell theater until February 6.
Every two years, they breathe new life into comic operas in the greatest Parisian theatres. And yet, they are amateurs. But beware “we are very competent amateurs, not to be confused with amateurism” warns Violaine. Launched by a group of friends, the Tréteaux Lyriques troupe has existed since 1968 and brings together lovers of opera singing. It has about forty singers and singers. “I’ve been part of this troupe for 30 years. I’ve never been able to leave it!” says Manon. To live up to the expectations of an increasingly demanding public, the troupe calls on professionals for the staging, the work of the choirs, the musical direction and the orchestra. “Working with professionals is extraordinary because you can believe yourself a little above” rejoices Manon. As for the decorations, they are made by the students of the Léonard de Vinci high school, specialized in the wood trades. “It’s a bit in our DNA to bring out young talents. It can be actors who come on stage with us. We do the same thing with the costumes. It allows us to put their teachings into practice” explains Marc Lesieur.
Les Tréteaux Lyriques specialize in the operas of Jacques Offenbach. After La Grande-duchesse de Gérolstein in 2020, the troupe is tackling this year La Perrichole. Another comic opera full of fantasy. La Périchole, a penniless street artist, leaves her lover Piquillo to give in to the advances of the Viceroy of Peru. The staging is provided by Yves Coudray, the orchestra is conducted by Laurent Grossaert, the choreography by Francesca Bonato. As with all Tréteaux Lyriques shows, the proceeds will be donated to charities.
La Périchole, from February 3 to 6 at the Gymnase Marie Bell theater, 38 boulevard de Bonne Nouvelle, Paris 10th.
