In Japan, bear attacks are increasing. Hungry, the animals do not hesitate to go to the city to find food.
A bear on the side of the road, another weaving between cars. In the trees, near houses, in recent months Japanese bears have been coming dangerously close to homes. Some even come to scratch at doors, like in Minamya Izu in Japan. Since this summer, 212 people have been attacked by mammals.
Global warming to blame
On September 28, Seishi Sato was picking mushrooms when he was taken by surprise by a 60 kg bear trying to protect his cub. He was injured in the leg by claws and bitten on the arm. “Once a bear decides to attack, you can’t stop it“, he confides. Others are less lucky: since April, six people have died. The bears are looking for food. Global warming is largely responsible. Winter is late , pushing back hibernation, and the summer, too hot, deprived the bears of acorns, berries and chestnuts.
