In Marseille, in Bouches-du-Rhône, a kitchen accommodates homeless people who have no place to cook for themselves. Since its opening in November 2022, this solidarity kitchen has already welcomed 3,000 people.

In the heart of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), is the “Cuisine du 101”, a kitchen for all those who don’t have one. Like every Monday, Oleg comes to prepare his food. He comes from Odessa (Ukraine). Since his arrival in France, he has been housed in a hotel room. “When you live in a hotel, you don’t have a kitchen. That’s the problem”, he explains. A developer made 70 square meters of premises available and donated the furniture. Utensils, cooking equipment… Everything can be used for free. You just have to come with your provisions. Facilitators are there if needed.

State and city subsidies

This idea emerged after the Covid crisis. The place operates thanks to subsidies from the State and the city of Marseille. Opened in November 2022, this solidarity kitchen has already welcomed 3,000 people. Present on the 13 Heures set, Thursday March 28, journalist Valérie Heurtel presents other initiatives around food. Thus, in Annecy (Haute-Savoie), the town hall has opened restaurants reserved for retirees.
