In La Manche, Damien Coué, a nuclear engineer, decided to give up everything to create a second chance farm. An association that offers a second life to people with dented routes but also to animals destined for slaughter. #IlsOntLaSolution
In April 2021, Damien Coué, nuclear engineer, decided to radically change his life for a project that was very close to his heart. This 34-year-old man, who no longer recognized himself in his old job, created an association called “A second chance”. The latter is installed in an educational farm in Querqueville in La Manche. Its objective is to help people in difficulty and rejected animals. This initiative is supported by around thirty members.
In the 1.5 hectare land that he rents and that he built from recycled materials, Damien Coué collects all kinds of animals. Sheep, injured pigeons, chickens destined for the slaughterhouse or even a handicapped rabbit destined for consumption. “It was a private individual who entrusted it to me. He explained to me that he had a disabled leg. The children became friends. Thanks to the association, he decided to give it to me. accepted it and since then it is part of the family of a second chance“, explains the former engineer.
Damien Coué is not alone in managing the animals and the farm. For three months, he has given charge of a vegetable garden to Jacques, a former homeless man, so that he can regain his self-confidence. “I hit rock bottom and to recover it’s very hard. But this second chance, I see it as my last chance and I will not miss it”, he recounts.
In the long term, the creator of the association wants to welcome more people in difficult situations. Soon, his farm will have to accommodate out-of-school children.
