in kyiv, despite the strikes of kamikaze drones, the Ukrainians, worn out by the attacks, take little refuge in the shelters

kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, is under repeated attack from kamikaze drones. And the inhabitants, worn out, seem to resign themselves to it. A week after the massive attack on the capital, the strikes resumed on Monday, October 17, killing three people. Moscow claims to have hit all these targets, including energy facilities, through the use of these drones provided by Iran, which however denies providing them, and which are added to the firing of missiles.

These drones, which look like delta wings, contain in their nose an explosive charge as well as optics necessary for a precision attack. On Monday morning, police were trying to shoot them with their handguns. Fast, difficult to spot, these machines fly at over 180 km/h and are increasingly used by the Russian army to target infrastructure and undermine Ukrainian morale.

Monday morning, despite the anti-aircraft alerts, and despite this major attack, very few Ukrainians took refuge in the metro stations, worn out from shelter. In the city center, only a handful of them had taken shelter when the anti-aircraft alert sounded again. Most continue to live their lives. “We are tired and then we got used to continuing to live: we have no choice”, testify the Ukrainians that franceinfo met. Drones also hit quiet streets.

in kyiv the metro still works, the railway station too, despite the strikes, Monday morning, nearby. The drones hit quieter streets than usual, but the Ukrainians there are still going to work.

“We got used to it, and anyway, we have to get used to it”sighs a café owner who has decided to keep his shop open. “I even saw one of the drones todaytestifies Denis, 25, met in the street. We tried to take shelter a bit, but I don’t think that even stresses me out anymore: it’s just a day like any other for me…”

“If the bombs don’t fall near, or nearer than you’ve ever experienced, then, you don’t react anymore”, he summarizes. The authorities ask residents to continue to shelter, often in vain.
