A solidarity sports recycling center has just been set up in the city center of Grenoble. It is the ninth in France. Its goal: to promote zero waste sport. #TheyHaveTheSolution
Bicycles, snowshoes or backpacks await their future owner. At first glance, you might think it’s a sports store. But when you look at the labels, the prices are unbeatable.
The store offers second-hand items. Eight other structures of this type exist in France. The objective is to reduce sports waste, which represents 104,000 tonnes each year in France, excluding textiles. “Among these 104,000 tonnes, 5% are recycled for reuse when we could easily be at 50%. So there is a real waste”, regrets Marc Bultez, co-founder of La recyclerie sportive.
In concrete terms, these sports recycling centers operate thanks to donations. “We collect sports equipment. Then, we redistribute them in stores or we repair them and then sell them, explains Pauline Trotereau, coordinator at La recyclerie sportive. We can also do upcycling, that is to say, we do something else with it to reduce waste as much as possible. The objective is also to encourage the practice of sport, hence articles at low prices.
In the fall, the Grenoble recyclerie will open a co-repair workshop with tools, spare parts and advice. Everyone can, first of all, come and repair their bike.
