In Brittany, voters how their vote recently switched to the National Rally. Report from Maen Roch, in Ille-et-Vilaine.
Maen Roch (Ille-et-Vilaine) is one of the Breton villages which voted the most for the National Rally in the European elections: more than 37% of the votes, or 13 points more than in 2019, where the presidential majority had won. Monique Le Presle voted for Les Républicains. It was inflation that convinced her. With 1,600 euros of pension, this widow wanted to express anger, but did not “do not know” if she wishes to give power to the RN in two weeks. “I have mixed feelings, maybe that would change things. Maybe up there they need to think about those down there”she confides.
Isabelle Gredat had not voted for 14 years. “But now, since the National Front has come back a little, and people are fed up with it…”, she says. At 56, his back prevents him from working. She depends on the disabled adult allowance, which she would like to see “revalued”. At 24, Vincent Belloir, a construction equipment driver, wants to limit the reception of migrants. According to him, in Brittany as elsewhere, it was the agricultural crisis which tipped the elections.
