It was a morning that mobilized more voters than 15 days ago, during the first round of the presidential election in the first round. On this decisive day, Sunday April 24, the teams of France Televisions posed their cameras in the polling station of Chilly-Mazarin, in Essonne, where Jean-Luc Mélenchon had come first on April 10.

At the town hall of Chilly-Mazarin, Sunday April 24 in the morning, everyone is on deck, ready to open the polling stations on time. Last checks by the Mayor, the ballot box is officially closed. This second round looks a little different. At 8 a.m., the first voters are already in a hurry to vote. The assessors are volunteers, often experienced in elections. “I’ve been doing it for 55 years”said one of them.

The assessors are always there to advise voters. “It’s a very pleasant moment of sharing with colleagues, and it’s part of public service too”, adds another volunteer. A young girl, who at 18 takes her first steps as a voter, is a little lost. The mayor takes the opportunity to recruit her, because she lacks volunteers. At noon, in Chilly-Mazarin, the participation rate was 27%. It was 29% five years ago.
