Conjunctivitis, lumbar pain or even tick bites: in total, Ludovic, pharmacist in Dol-de-Bretagne, can support 13 symptoms well identified. “We have a precise list of pathologies that we can treat or not. For some, we will be able to treat them. For others, we guide them to an available doctor or even to the emergency room if it is necessary.”
Support and follow-up
A privacy area was installed in the pharmacy. Patients must answer a series of questions about their little health concerns before being guided by pharmacists. “The device allows a complete follow-up of our patients. We always check in a few days after their visit to us to make sure that they have been taken care of”adds Ludovic.
Unclog emergencies
The purpose of the operation is to avoid emergency room congestion, “too often acclaimed for bobology”, blows Ludovic. But that’s not all. The device allows Breton patients rapid treatment in a region affected by lack of attending physicians.
A unique device in France
The operation is conducted since October 2021 by ARS Bretagne, in association with the Ministry of Health and the Pharma Système Qualité association. “In 6 months, nearly 400 people went to consult their pharmacist”confides Stéphane Mulliez, general manager of ARS Bretagne. The objective: 7,500 patients treated by the end of the experiment in 2023.
