Residents of Bourg-lès-Valence, in the Drôme, have offered to the town hall to recover the water from their swimming pools instead of emptying them. The water is reused to water the trees in the town.

In Bourg-lès-Valence (Drôme), water from private swimming pools is being reused in response to the heat wave. “Except if it is a salt treatment, (…) the chlorine, once it has evaporated, there is no problem with the trees”explains Lionel Cafacci, green spaces agent. “It’s small quantities, but small quantities can save trees”testifies for his part Audrey Kodjikian, a resident.

In another pool, the water turned during the summer. The agents will recover 30m3 of water, enough to water 300 trees. “We realize that there is an awareness on the part of our fellow citizens for everything concerning global warming”, rejoices Marlène Mourier, mayor (LR) of Bourg-lès-Valence (Drôme). A scarce resource in times of restrictions, the water is immediately poured onto young plantations in a public park. Young shrubs are the first to suffer from drought. The first three years of watering are however essential. Since Monday, September 5, twenty residents have already offered to donate water from their swimming pool.
