in Bésayes, the retirement home pays for gasoline for its caregivers

The increase in the price of gasoline can become a brake on recruitment. Candidates are reluctant to take positions too far from home so as not to lose too much purchasing power.

“Bésayes is very well located” argues Didier Meyrand, the director of the Les Monts du Matin nursing home, “half of the Drôme population lives less than 30 minutes by car from Bésayes. But there is no public transport, you have to be transported. And as the price of fuel increases, the idea is to to take care of the journeys for the caregivers.

Up to 508 euros accumulated over a month

Caregivers will therefore be compensated 35 euro cents per kilometer between their home and the nursing home. That’s more than 12 euros a day for those coming from Valencia, more than 8 euros for the Romans for example. Cumulated over the month, some will receive up to 508 euros, net of tax, ensures management. For Fabienne Désorme, caregiver, this boost will largely cover her refueling: “I live in Glun in Ardèche. I will receive 18.41 euros per day of work. Given the galloping inflation, this will allow me to have greater purchasing power, to be more comfortable.”

The Monts du Matin nursing home has so far paid these mileage costs to temporary workers. There, Didier Meyrand, the director, wants to make an argument to attract holders. He is looking for 3 nurses and 5 additional caregivers and has enough to finance the measure without increasing the rate for residents: “We have very comfortable care facilities that allow us to cover these costs without any problem.”
